Saturday, September 28th
This past Saturday, the St. Andrews Knights took on Truett McConnell University in a highly anticipated conference showdown at home. The day featured two compelling matches, each showcasing the resilience and determination of the Knights.
Women's Team Battles Hard
The women's game proved to be a challenging affair for the Knights. After a tough first half, the team found themselves trailing 0-5 at the break. However, standout goalkeeper Jaydin Sanchez delivered a stellar performance, making an impressive nine saves to keep her team in the game.
In the second half, the Knights tightened their defense, allowing only one additional goal from the Bears. Despite their best efforts, the game concluded with a 0-6 loss. The women’s team demonstrated heart and perseverance, laying the groundwork for future improvement as they continue to grow throughout the season.
Men's Team Triumphs in Close Contest
The men's game presented a much different narrative. From the outset, it was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams unable to find the back of the net in the first half, leaving the score tied at 0-0 at halftime.
The momentum shifted just 20 minutes into the second half when #4 Pablo Diezhandino netted a crucial goal from the penalty spot, giving the Knights a 1-0 lead. Not long after, #30 Pedro Salomâo scored another, with an assist from #18 Johan Trigo-Rios, bringing the score to 2-0.
However, the Bears quickly responded with a goal by #27 Marco Mandelka, narrowing the gap to 2-1. The Knights held strong, successfully defending against any further attacks from Truett McConnell. The match ended in a hard-fought victory for the Knights, solidifying their standing in the conference.
