Upset Bid Comes Up Short Against Keiser

LAURINBURG, N.C. - The upset bid of No.1 ranked and defending national champions Keiser fell just short as St. Andrews dropped a 17-13 contest at Knights Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights now drop to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while the Seahawks improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 on the year.

Keiser looked to run away with things early on as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead after eight minutes of action. Skii Bollinger (SR/Wilmington, NC) would get things going for the Knights on an assist from Kennedy Martin (SO/Wilmington, NC) at the 6:16 mark. Martin would once again dish out a pass that lead to an Alia Loydd (JR/Lake Wales, FL) goal with 5:20 to play in the first period. The two teams traded goals once more before the end period giving Keiser a 4-3 lead.

Minutes into the second frame Lexi Sardinas (FR/Cary, N.C.) tied things up with a power-play advantage. Keiser's Mia Dyson and Kennedy Martin would trade goals twice halfway through the period before Keiser scored back to back goals in the final minute. The Seahawks held an 8-6 lead over the Knights at the halftime break.

Just like the start of the game, Keiser scored three unanswered goals after the intermission. After scooping up a ground ball, Bollinger assisted Martin for her third goal to cut the deficit to 11-7 at the 10:41 mark. Loydd and Martin would score their second and third goals respectively as the Knights closed out the third trailing 14-10.

The fourth quarter became a shootout when both teams finished with three goals apiece and match every goal the other put up. Loydd would secure a hat trick while Martin scored her sixth goal of the game in the final period. Lyndsea Walker (SO/Bowie, MD) scored the final goal of the game for St. Andrews and her first of the season.

Leading the way defensively was Asiah Dewberry (JR/Avon Park, FL) who finished with a game high five caused turnovers. Chloe Isola (SO/Oviedo, FL) finished with 13 saves and six groundballs in goal for the Knights.

The tough season schedule continues with a matchup on the road against No. 2 University of Cumberlands on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 2:00 pm.
