Bio
With a strong passion for higher education and college athletics, Christy Johnson enters her 11th year at St. Andrews University, A branch of Webber International. Returning to St. Andrews in 2017, she currently she serves as the Associate Director of Admissions with a strong focus in student-athlete recruitment and retention. Additionally, she serves as the Senior Woman Leader within the Athletics Department. Under the direction of the Athletic Director, she is tasked with various opportunities including academic oversight of student-athletes, assisting with NAIA compliance and hiring, as well as student-athlete recruitment and retention efforts. Prior to the transition back to Athletics, she was solely in the Admissions Office for six years and has served as the lead Athletics Liaison since 2017.
Prior to the current second tour at St. Andrews, Johnson was hired in May 2015 by Converse College to lead the inaugural fastpitch softball program. These responsibilities included recruiting the team prior to the 2015-2016 Spring season, hiring a graduate assistant, and utilizing a budget to purchase all necessary equipment items for the program. During her time at Converse, she was also a selected staff member to participate in the DiSC Leadership initiative that was hosted by the NCAA to facilitate student-athlete leadership skills and knowledge.
During her first stint on the campus of St. Andrews, from 2012-2015, she was hired as the Assistant Softball Coach in 2012 and went on to earn the title Associate Head Coach under the helm of Head Coach Elizabeth Burris in 2013. From 2013-2015 she served not only the Athletics Department, but served on campus as the Study Hall Coordinator and an Academic Mentor.
Before moving back to the Carolinas, Johnson served as the graduate assistant from 2010-2012 at West Texas A&M University, in Canyon, Texas. While assisting the softball program, she earned a Masters of Arts in Criminal Justice. The program earned a conference and regional title in 2011, capping off a 50 win season.
In 2009, after a year of coaching high school softball, Johnson relocated down to Melbourne, Florida to start her college coaching career under mentor Val Silvestrini at Florida Institute of Technology as a volunteer assistant softball coach.
As a student-athlete, Johnson played at Aiken Technical College and graduated with two associate degrees, followed by a continued career at Charleston Southern University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology.
