St. Andrews named NAIA Gold "Five-Star Champions of Character Institution."

Laurinburg, N.C. - St. Andrews has been named one of 10 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) schools to receive a Gold Status for the "Five Star Champions of Character" Award by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (AAC).

Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earn points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition, and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the academic year.

The other nine AAC schools receiving gold status are: Brenau, Bryan, Columbia, Columbia International, Milligan, Montreat, SCAD Atlanta, Truett McConnell, and Union Commonwealth.

107 institutions recorded a perfect score of 100, and the AAC led the NAIA with eight members achieving the score. Brenau, Bryan, Columbia International, Milligan, Montreat, St. Andrews, Truett McConnell, and Union all hit the high mark. This is the most AAC schools to score 100 points in an academic year.

"This is huge for our athletics department and school," St. Andrews Athletic Director Elizabeth Burris said. "All credit goes to the coaches, student athletes, especially baseball, for all everyone did last year for the community."
