
St. Andrews Baseball Clinches Series Win, Celebrating Head Coach's Milestone 200th Victory
St. Andrews University's baseball team played a thrilling series against Spartanburg Methodist College from March 8 to March 9, 2025, showcasing resilience and determination. The Knight took the series with winning the first and third game. The series marked the 200th win for Head Coach Andy Fox, who has led the Knights since 2012.
Game 1
In the first game of the series, St. Andrews was in a battle from the start, as Spartanburg Methodist put together a strong offensive effort. Spartanburg took an early 4-0 lead, with notable contributions from Jarian Pinckney and Parker Winfield. However, St. Andrews fought back in the middle innings, scoring five runs between the third and fifth innings, including a pivotal moment in the fifth when Garrett Wolff hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the go-ahead run. The game remained tight throughout, with both teams trading runs in the late innings. A dramatic finish saw St. Andrews hold off Spartanburg Methodist's rally attempt in the ninth inning, clinching an 11-10 win.
Game 2
In the second game, Spartanburg Methodist's pitching staff dominated, limiting St. Andrews to just three hits. Despite this, St. Andrews' defense kept them in the game. A crucial two-run home run by Josh Zambito in the first inning gave St. Andrews the early lead. Spartanburg Methodist responded with two runs of their own in the third and fourth innings, but St. Andrews' pitchers, led by Tyler Barfield, were able to hold them at bay. The final game of the series saw St. Andrews demonstrate resilience in the face of a Spartanburg Methodist comeback attempt. After an early two-run deficit, St. Andrews came back in the fifth inning with a run scored by Caden Santucci on a wild pitch. The game was tied up in the seventh inning, with Garret Hamby and Isaiah Martin coming up clutch with RBIs to put St. Andrews ahead 4-3. Spartanburg Methodist attempted to rally in the later innings, but St. Andrews held strong, securing a 7-5 victory to win the series.
