St. Andrews Knights Close Out Home Season with 31-14 Loss to Bluefield Rams
The St. Andrews Knights (NC) wrapped up their 2024 home slate with a hard-fought 31-14 loss to the Bluefield Rams (VA) on Saturday afternoon. Despite a spirited performance and a strong second-half push, turnovers and missed opportunities ultimately left the Knights just short in their final home game of the season.
Strong Start, Tough Breaks
The Knights came out with energy, especially after Kennison Moore's impressive 19-yard return to the Bluefield 34-yard line. However, an early interception by quarterback Kedrick Patterson set up a Bluefield touchdown, giving the Rams a 7-0 lead. The Knights faced another setback when Patterson's second interception led to another quick Bluefield touchdown, putting the Rams up 14-0 midway through the first quarter.
Resilience in the Face of Adversity
St. Andrews showed resilience throughout the first half, with Patterson connecting on several key passes to receivers Marquis Fenton and Cadyn Graves. The defense also stepped up with a fumble recovery after a long Bluefield reception, giving the Knights a much-needed break. However, another turnover, this time a botched handoff, allowed Bluefield to extend their lead to 21-0 by halftime.
Knights Fight Back in the Second Half
Coming out of halftime, the Knights came alive. Patterson led a strong drive capped off by a 23-yard touchdown pass to Fenton, narrowing the score to 21-7 and energizing the home crowd. Though Bluefield responded quickly with a touchdown of their own to push the lead to 28-7, St. Andrews continued to battle.
In the fourth quarter, the Knights scored again with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Patterson to Devon Roesch, bringing the score to 31-14. Despite the late push, the Rams sealed the victory with a field goal, but the Knights showed their determination throughout.
A Strong Effort in the Season Finale
Though the Knights were unable to finish their home season with a win, their effort was commendable, particularly in the second half. Senior Day added an emotional element to the game, as players and fans showed their appreciation for the team's hard work all season.
With a 2-4 record at home, St. Andrews now sets its sights on their final road games of the season. The team will look to build on the resilience and fight they showed in the second half of this game as they aim to finish strong. Key players for the Knights was Kedrick Patterson who threw for 208 yards, 1 touchdown, and 3 interceptions. Marquis Fenton had 4 receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown.
St. Andrews will head on the road next week, looking to close out the season on a high note
