In a tightly contested playoff match, St. Andrews University fell short to undefeated Milligan University, 1-0. The only goal of the game came early in the first half, when Milligan’s Marco Lattanzi capitalized on an assist from James Bakou in the 8th minute. Despite an aggressive second-half push, including a 15-9 shot advantage, St. Andrews was unable to break through Milligan’s defense.
St. Andrews had more corner kicks (5-3), but Milligan’s goalkeeper made key saves, finishing with 4 total stops. St. Andrews’ goalkeeper AAC all -conference Cristobal Romero had just 1 save in the match. The game ended with Milligan holding on to their undefeated record, advancing in the playoffs.
Two quality teams saw Milligan, last year's national runners-up, being pushed all the way with the Knights experienced midfielders helping to wrestle control after conceding early. " Proud of the effort, but disappointed with our execution of the final pass or shot, disappointed to lose. We are the only team this fall to outshoot the Buffs, but playing away is tough in our league, and you need to take the few chances you get on the road if you to get to the championship game" said Coach Clark. "Credit to Coach Sweeney and Milligan who maintained their composure and good luck to them the rest of the way."
