St. Andrews Sweeps Doubleheader Against Virginia Union
St. Andrews secured back-to-back wins over Virginia Union on February 9, 2025, in Laurinburg, taking Game 1 in a tight 6-5 contest and following it up with a 5-1 victory in Game 2.
St. Andrews took control early in game 1, scoring in each of the first three innings to establish a 6-2 lead. Olivia Plybon and Ava McPhillips provided key RBIs, while Meghan Fritz delivered a strong complete-game performance, allowing five earned runs on ten hits with five strikeouts. Despite Virginia Union's three-run fourth inning, St. Andrews' defense held firm to secure the victory.
Game 2: Strong Pitching Seals the Sweep
In the second game, St. Andrews' pitching duo of Valentina Jara and Jaylin Joss stifled Virginia Union's offense, allowing just one run on five hits. The Knights capitalized on Virginia Union's defensive errors, with Tess Ruschman and Cat Berger driving in a pair of runs each. A three-run second inning gave St. Andrews a lead.
