Knights Fall Short on Senior Day Against Milligan
The Knights celebrated Senior Day, honoring a remarkable group of eight graduating seniors: Taylor Maynard, Meghan Fritz, Sarah Sidell, Amber Bird, Malakai Fearn, Tess Ruschman, Jalyin Joss, and Savanna Jackson.
Game 1: St. Andrews 2, Milligan 6
The St. Andrews (NC) softball team faced Milligan (TN) in a non-conference matchup, falling 6-2 despite a strong offensive effort from Cat Berger. Milligan struck early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a 2-RBI home run by Alana Parsons. St. Andrews responded in the 4th inning with a 2-RBI single from Berger, scoring Maddy Taylor and Meghan Fritz to tie the game at 2-2.
However, Milligan regained the lead in the 5th inning and added insurance runs in the 6th and 7th innings to secure a 6-2 victory. On the mound, Meghan Fritz pitched a complete game for St. Andrews, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 11 hits, walking 1 and striking out 4. Despite her solid performance, St. Andrews struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities and committed key defensive errors, including a fielding miscue that led to an unearned run in the 5th.
Game 2: St. Andrews 7, Milligan 12
In a high-scoring affair, St. Andrews (NC) came up short once again, losing 12-7 to Milligan (TN). Despite 14 hits, St. Andrews was unable to contain Milligan's offense, which put up consistent runs throughout the game.
Olivia Plybon had a standout performance, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, driving in Meghan Fritz and Ella Campbell to briefly give St. Andrews a 5-4 lead in the second inning. Tess Ruschman was also key at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI double in the first inning, and Jaylyn Joss contributed with 3 hits and an RBI single in the seventh to close the gap to 12-7.
